Mortgage Protection

Mortgage Term Assurance is designed to help pay off the remaining mortgage debt if you die within a set "term". It can help to ensure your dependants needn't worry about repaying the mortgage if you die during the policy term.  This type of plan can take two forms:

• Decreasing Term Assurance - For this type of plan, the amount of cover reduces over the policy term, approximately in line with a repayment mortgage and therefore the potential payout, decreases over the term. It is important to choose the appropriate term and amount.

• Level Term Assurance - the benefit payable under this type of plan is fixed throughout the term, unless you alter your plan. It is designed to pay a lump sum for a valid claim during the policy term. For example if you have cover for £200,000 over a period of 21 years, if you die within that time and you have kept all your premiums up to date, your life assurance could pay out £200,000.

• This is not a savings or investment product and has no cash value unless a valid claim is made.
